    The SCA scoring system has been used since 2004 and is synonymous with the Q Grading Score for a coffee. This quantitative and qualitative assessment of coffee through green grading and cupping presents a score out of 100, a score that ultimately determines the ‘quality’ of a coffee, as well as the determination and influence of specialty coffee pricing. Over the last three years, the SCA has researched the flaws within the current value system, and, as a result, it has created a new assessment, the ‘Coffee Value Assessment’. But just what is the new Coffee Value Assessment? Q Instructor and AST with over 18 years of experience, Alin Giriada, joins the stage at Dublin Coffee Festival to delve into what this new Value Assessment involves and what aspects it reviews with this updated SCA scoring system.     Ana Luiza Pellicer is Mió's COO for International Businesses. Mió is a coffee farm in Monte Santo de Minas, Brazil and also an exporter and importer of green coffee in the UK and Europe. During this talk, Ana will explain what defines ‘precision agriculture’ and how it has a single aim: to increase the sustainability of environmental, social and economic practices. Precision agriculture aims to achieve this goal by allowing precise forward planning and informed decision making. By exploring how precision agriculture works through the use of vast amounts of data collected from different sources (such as soil, plant etc.), monitoring hundreds of variables, (from the amount of organic matter in the soil to the nitrogen content in the leaves) and calculating the ideal plant spacing for each coffee plot for efficient use of resources is tangible, Ana will guide the audience through the definition and delivery of precision agriculture and what this can look like in practice, as well as the outcomes of utilising these tools at origin. An essential to attend talk for all coffee lovers keen to learn more about this sustainable agricultural management tool, this is the ideal way to finish off your time at Dublin Coffee Festival 2024 on Friday!
